Mercury Sable Recall
The Ford Motor Co. recalled Mercury Sable mid-size vehicles due to too close
adjustable accelerator and brake pedals. This design may cause speed increase
because of unintentional stepping on both pedals, making the vehicle more difficult
to stop. The recall affected 424,164 Mercury Sable and Taurus, about 10 percent
of the models. In 1993, the Ford recalled more than 1.5 million 1986-93 models
of Sable and Taurus in 36 states with high salt. The recall was about corrosion
defects, causing the brake rotor hub and or the subframe mount to fail.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recalled the 1995
Mercury Sable for possible engine cooling fan bearing to seize. This condition
may lead to generating excessive heat that can melt the fan motor electrical connector.
Another reason is that the components inside the cooling fan motor could ignite,
which may result to underhood fire, and to possible accident and death. Also a
recall was made for the Mercury Sable for possible brake failure.
